He posed the question, “what games did you love the most?” He did mention some of my favorites, but skipped over many that I thought were awesome games.
The author wrote the post a few days ago (on the 14th) and was talking about the 25th anniversary of the Sega Genesis console’s release in North America. Track this down, play with friends and have fun.I was doing my usual rounds of the interwebz today and ran across this article on Polygon. One major feature is called boot camp, essentially it teaches you the various control required to play the game so a manual isn't required. General Chaos in a must buy for the genesis as it was one of the few game compatible with EA's 4way play (essentially a multi-tap) which meant you could play it with 3 other people. No matter how many times the player marches through the enemy capital there is always the option to continue playing. The goal of the game is to essentially get the highest score you can.
If you get too close to an enemy soldier you engage in close combat then the controls change into a fighting game. C cycles through soldier, B makes them move to wherever you point with the cursor and A makes them automatically target and shoot. The gameplay is very simple you move a cursor around with the D-pad. General Chaos is a port of an arcade game to the genesis by Electronic Arts before they sold out. This game is simple and fun a must buy for the system. If you were a Sega kid like me, this is definitely a title to pick up.
Multiplayer adds another layer of fun to the game, as with a multi-tap, you can have up to four players. The environment itself needs to be considered, as you'll want to blow up many things for mission objectives, run around to ammo and medic supplies, hide behind cover, and swim across treacherous waters. Your gunner provides covering fire, and the dynamiter and grenadier supply the boom. Your flamethrower needs to be up close, while the rocket launcher should be far away. Once you get the hang of the controls and basic idea, you find it's all about where you place your guys on the map. The mechanics of the game are simple, press "A" to tell all your men to fire, "B" tells the currently highlighted guy to move where your cursor is located (surprisingly, the D-Pad controlled cursor isn't too bad to use), and "C" cycles through control of your guys. In campaign mode you play a series of real-time strategy battles, slowly edging your way to the enemy's HQ, and victory beyond. In all its 16-bit glory, General Chaos still remains one of my favorite Genesis games.
